We recommend that all your stay in the Cook Islands be pre-booked and paid for before you arrive to avoid disappointment and time wasting trying to source accommodation specific to your needs.

There are several excellent. clean and comfortable, backpacker style hostels as since camping is not permitted in the Cook Islands those on a shoestring budget should consider this alternative.

Pre-booked travelers are usually greeted at the airport by their hosts with a fresh flower lei, a colourful flower garland worn about the neck and one of the Cooks Island’s gracious customs. When making your accommodation booking ensure transfers are included to make arrival at your accommodation stress free.

While most accommodation facilities are found in Rarotonga and Aitutaki, the other islands in the southern group such as Atiu, Mauke, Mangaia and Manihiki offer much simpler but excellent budget accommodation. The islands in the northern group, offer very limited accommodation, mostly centered around home-stays, and flight services are quite minimal at present.
