General Information
What Dreams are made of!
A holiday in the Cook Islands is not complete without seeing and staying on the beautiful island of Aitutaki, 220 kilometres north of Rarotonga. Only a 45 minute flight away, Aitutaki is the second most visited island of the magical Cook Islands and is highly recommended as a "must stay" extension to your Rarotonga holiday. Day trips are also very popular for those who are limited for time.
For a small island, Aitutaki has a lot to offer those who are fortunate enough to be staying. An assortment of shops are scattered throughout the five villages along the west coast, offering handcrafts, souvenirs and island-style fashions.
Getting There
Air Rarotonga flies three times daily, except for Sundays and cameras are a must, because the aerial views as you get closer to this magical South Seas Island are spectacular. Surrounded by an enormous lagoon, guests and visitors alike will fall in love with Aitutaki's clear turquoise waters, sandy white beaches and magnificent marine life.
Teeming with coloured fish of many varieties, this pretty lagoon is enclosed by a surf topped coral reef and a sprinkling of small and charming uninhabited islands (motus) - adding to this island's great natural beauty and tranquillity.
Tours
As with its larger counterpart, the locals on Aitutaki get together on Friday nights for an evening of dancing and singing and Sundays are dedicated to church-related activities. With such a big lagoon lapping its shores, guests cannot help but spend relaxing days swimming in the clear waters and the snorkelling near the many small motus in the southern and eastern parts of the lagoon, will keep everyone occupied for hours. With lagoon depths reaching on average 35 feet, some of the best diving in the world is available out at Aitutaki and game fishing enthusiasts are also well catered for, both in the lagoon and outside the reef.
