'Atiu is a small island made up of raised coral cliffs, limestone caves, dense coastal forest, swamps and small lakes. Despite the rugged terrain, much of the island is very fertile. 'Atiu is known for its spectacular limestone caves, abundant birdlife and secluded beaches, whilst the dense native rainforest hides ancient bush trails made by inhabitants dating back to 0900AD

Air Rarotonga offers a return daily flight from Rarotonga, Monday to Saturday approximately NZ$300.00 although the ‘Hopper Pass’ of only NZ$420.00 allows you to include Aitutaki

Birdman George
George’s Mateariki or ‘Birdman George’ offers interesting eco tours of 'Atiu that explore the ancient trails and observe indigenous birds, learn the uses of plants in local medicine, and picnic island-style on one of 'Atiu's many secluded beaches
'Atiu Tours
Owned by Marshall Humphries, an Englishman, 'Atiu Tours offers a great circle-island tour visiting all the historical sites and the nicer beaches and blow holes. It is also inclusive of a beach picnic. Cost is only NZ$40 per person.

Accommodation
Atiu Villas offers 6 A frame chalet style villas; eco built using local exotic timbres such as coconut, mango, cedar, java plum, and Pacific mahogany. Each villa sleeps a maximum of 6, is separately decorated, serviced, has cooking facilities, separate bathroom, verandah and a fully stocked larder. On site is an evening restaurant, grass tennis court. Rental scooters and vehicles are available from the tour desk.
Kopeka Lodge has 3 very comfortable and fully self contained wooden chalets set in gorgeous tropical grounds of fruit and flowering shrubs. Rates from NZ$85-125 a night
Kia Orana Bungalows sitting on top of a ridge near the centre of the island looks like something out of 'Alice and Wonderland' with their 6 art-deco wooden bungalows! Each self-contained bungalow, which is small inside, comes with a lovely deck offering majestic views over the lush valley. Rate NZ$80 a night.
Taparere Lodge offers 2 large self-contained units in a single lodge situated in the north of 'Atiu near Mapumai Village. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. Rate NZ$20.00 a night
Atiu Tours Homestays is a family run home stay by the people who run 'Atiu Tours. They offer two rooms, a twin and a double, inside their own home. Every facility is shared. Rate NZ$40.00 a night
Are Manuira, situated in the heart of town is very basic and best used by backpackers or people who like their accommodation rustic. It is a 3 bedroom house with shared kitchen and bathroom. Ideal for those wanting to have a full-on 'local' experience. Rate NZ$30-75 per person.
