General Information
Manuae is made up of two uninhabited islands, Manuae and Te Au O Tu and these days is a marine reserve primarily for turtles and many varieties of seabirds. In earlier times it was partially colonized by people from Aitutaki and Atiu however the missionaries resettled them on Aitutaki in the 1820s. Since then it has been used a penal colony before the Rarotonga Jail was built.
