Most activities can be done on your own but if wishing to explore some of the more inaccessible caves, grottos and beaches you really need a guide.
Tangata ateriano offers half day and full day tours around the island by 4WD truck. Prices are negotiable based on numbers, budget for 30.00 per person per half day.
Clem Vainetutai offers tours either by motor scooter or foot. Price by negotiation based on numbers and duration. Budget for 30.00 per person per half day.
Pi Tua is definitely one of the more colourful locals on Ma'uke. He is well into his sixties and knows the island probably better than anyone, in particular the caves and grottos. Budget for 25.00-30.00 per person per half day.

Tiare Cottages were the first to be built and offer very basic bungalows, self-contained lodge and a beachfront house. The self –contained lodge and the beachfront house are by far the pick of the bunch, especially the beachfront house which is really a cliff-top house with magnificent sea views. Scooters can be rented for 25.00 a day and bicycles for 10.00 a day
Ri's Retreat is split over two locations, one near the airport, the other on built on stilts on Anaraura Beach, one of the loveliest beaches on the island. Both sets of accommodation are relatively new with modern décor and furnishings. You can rent scooters here for 25.00 a day.
