General Information
More a large atoll than a coral island, Palmerston with a land mass of no more than 2 sq km sits isolated from the rest of the Cooks Islands’ being in geographic ‘no-man’s-land’ out on a limb between the Southern Group and the Northern Group. With all the 70 population descendents from the one family, the Marsters (William Marsters and his 3 Tahitian wives colonized the atoll in 1863), Palmerston is probably the most unique of its kind in the world!
Getting There
The only way to get there is by sea on either the inter-island shipping companies of Taio Shipping & Mataroa Shipping. It about 3-4 days to reach there and departs usually bi-monthly. Some ships provide limited cabins whilst other ships have none.
